Abstract There are many sculptures known in the cemeteries of the Cremasco area, but few examples of wall paintings and frescoes remain, due to weathering and the renovation of chapels. These cemeteries feature valuable decorations by two artists from Crema who worked between the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century: Angelo Bacchetta (Crema, 1841-1920) and Eugenio Giuseppe Conti (Crema, 1842 - Milan, 1909). By studying the bibliographical evidence relating to these painters, investigating the projects they carried out, as well as archival and photographic sources, it has been possible to reconstruct a catalogue of works, both existing and lost, intended to adorn funerary chapels scattered throughout the area.
Sommario Nei cimiteri del territorio cremasco sono note numerose sculture, ma restano pochi esempi di pitture murali e affreschi, a causa dell’esposizione agli agenti atmosferici e dei restauri delle cappelle. Questi cimiteri conservano preziose decorazioni di due artisti cremaschi attivi tra la seconda metà dell’Ottocento e l’inizio del Novecento: Angelo Bacchetta (Crema, 1841-1920) ed Eugenio Giuseppe Conti (Crema, 1842 – Milano, 1909). Attraverso lo studio delle testimonianze bibliografiche relative a questi pittori, l’indagine dei progetti da loro realizzati e l’esame di fonti archivistiche e fotografiche, è stato possibile ricostruire un catalogo delle opere, esistenti e perdute, destinate ad adornare le cappelle funerarie disseminate sul territorio.
